Genesis 1:2 is a verse from the Bible that is part of the creation narrative in the book of Genesis, which is the first book of the Old Testament. The verse reads as follows:
"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."
This verse comes immediately after the opening statement in Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:2 sets the stage for the account of God's creation of the world. It describes the initial state of the earth before God began His creative work, portraying it as formless, empty, and covered in darkness.
